Killing time

Procrastination is, hands down, our favorite form of self-sabotage."
-Alyce P. Cornyn-Selby

I'm a list oriented person. I keep my planner color coded and post it notes in tow just in case I have something I need to add or a list that needs to be made. I'm the person who walks around the grocery store with a list of items that I need to get.

Then why the heck am I the world's biggest procrastinator? You would think with my anal OCD habits I would be on top of getting things done. Ernt. False. I signed up for an independent study class and now have 2 weeks left to get it done. How much do I have done? I have successfully completed one unit out of seven. That means I have to read from 2 Nephi to Alma 27 by next Thursday. Yeah I know you are impressed.

So these next few days I'm going to dive right in and be reading more scriptures than the prophet himself. Why? It's purely my own fault. That's the worse part.

Soundtrack to life

Music is what feelings sound like.
-Unknown

There are appropriately 6,876,512,706 people on the plant at the time I write this blog. I feel like I can say with confidence that they all, in some way or form, enjoy music.

Maybe this post is inspired by the multiple glee episodes I watched last night or maybe the fact that pandora is constantly going in my room at all times, but it seems like lately I've been able to apply sounds to certain moments in my life and they explain what I feel more so than I can. Here is the current soundtrack to my life.

Rascal Flatts- I'm moving on.
J.J. Hellar- His hands
Carrie Underwood- Remember Me
Wished you were here- Hayley Sales
Lady Antebellum- I was here
The Wedding- I-540
and
Laura Story- Perfect Peace

Stuffed French Toast

From the gut comes the strut, and where huger reigns, strength abstains. - Francois Rabelias

Devaun has been really wanting to go eat french toast for the past few Saturdays and so to appease her this morning I pulled up my skunk hair and we went off on adventure for breakfast. My agreement to going was because I was really craving stuffed french toast. We got the in car and to Denny's we went because it was the closet breakfast restaurant to us at the time. We sat down among America's finest and starred at the menu. After we had received our waters we still sat there starring at the menus. Until we both looked at each other and knew nothing Denny's had to offer us would do the trick. So we did it. We dashed. I didn't feel horrible about this situation because all we left was our menus and glasses of water. Devaun did this awkwardly of course.

After a couple of U-turns we arrived at Magleby's. As we walked in Devaun automatically realized that this isn't what she was expecting. They, to my disappointment, did not have stuffed french toast either.

What is the moral of this story about dine and dashing, multiple references to french toast, and Devaun? It is that I should have gone with my gut and drove our happy butts to IHOP.

Knock, Knock, Knocking at my door

Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can- there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.  - Sarah Caldwell

Another phase of growing up: Realizing adults were right all along.

Growing up in a home with a "motivational mother" I always heard her say to take every opportunity that I had to grow and change. Now that I'm literally "growing up" I'm realizing how helpful that advice really was.

Things that I wished I would have learned from other people before now:
  • How to legitly cook. (I always go wrong somewhere even when following recipes.)
  • How to stay awake in 8 a.m. classes
  • How to scrub a tub without soaking yourself.

Things that I've learned lately from people around me:
  • Think before you speak.
  • Never take cookies to a boys apartment if you live in Utah
  • How to drive on a major interstate

Things that I look forward to learning:
  • How to serve/help those around me through my education
  • Life's greatest lessons.
  • Yep- can't think of a third one.

Opportunities have been coming at me left and right and I'm taking everyone I can. It looks like it's going to be a wild ride but boy am I ready to rock.

A letter a day...

To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart.
Phyllis Theroux

So being a Mormon young adult female pretty much means that the friends of the opposite sex and even some of the same sex will go M.I.A for a few years and the only correspondents you can have with them will be through hand writing letters. It's a process that my generation never has really experienced so I feel like it's breaking the norm each time I sit down to right a three page hand written letter.

I almost get a feeling of peace though because it's like capturing your memories on a piece of paper. Very rewarding so I highly recommend it to those of you who haven't done it in a while. If you don't have anyone to write I'm more than willing to accept all/any letters that come my way.

I also feel that when I write letters I'm saying things pretty straight from the heart. You're hand just keeps going and before ya know it you've got down on paper sentences and phrases about your day that you had yet to think about. Almost euphoric.

The best part about writing a letter is the anticipation of getting one back. Once it's sent I feel like I should instantly get a response since generally when you text or facebook chat even you get the instant gratification of knowing what the recipient has to say about your message. I think letter writing in this way is a good patience builder for me. I actually have to wait for a response. There is little to no instant gratification in sending a letter to France.

So today I'm mailing out three different letters to three separate parts of the world. Now I wait for the response.

Another pro to letter writing- having a cool roommate who writes letters too.
